CASA LIBRE - FREEDOM HOUSE
The Casa Libre/Freedom Home is a project of the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, Inc. It is a licensed emergency and long-term 14-bed shelter for minors under the age of 18 without homes, including unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children.The program offers a range of services, including case management, educational testing and placement, referrals to no-cost health care providers, drug and alcohol prevention programs, family reunification services, living skills and leadership workshops, free legal and immigration services, and cultural activities. The program focuses on Los Angeles inner-city homeless children, and has a history of providing services to immigrant and refugee children, including unaccompanied minors.
ABOUT
The Casa Libre/Freedom House currently offers an emergency and transitional living shelter program for homeless children under the age of 18 years. The program's expertise lies in the provision of shelter, social, educational, medical and legal services for homeless children, with a focus on unaccompanied immigrant children who have often been abused, abandoned, or neglected in this home countries and traveled to the United States alone.
- Emergency shelter services include case management, immediate efforts at family reunification, educational testing, identifying and addressing urgent medical needs, investigation of areas in which legal services are needed, etc.

For those who do not know, Day of the Child is a day-long event sponsored by Children Uniting Nations. Each volunteer will be paired up with a child, with whom he or she will mentor and play games. The event itself is free, but is restricted to the first 1000 volunteers, so register NOW!
